Are Squishmallows Worth the Price?

The question of whether Squishmallows are expensive is one that many fans of these adorable plush toys often ask. Squishmallows, known for their squishy texture and varied shapes, have become increasingly popular, especially among collectors. So, let's dive into the costs associated with these fluffy companions.

But before we do, let's clarify that "expensive" is a relative term. What might seem pricey to one person could be a steal to another. Therefore, this article will discuss the prices of Squishmallows in a comprehensive manner, allowing you to determine if they fit your budget.

The Price Range of Squishmallows

Squishmallows are generally affordable, with most falling within a budget-friendly price range. However, the price can vary depending on several factors such as size, scarcity, and exclusivity. Let's break down the pricing:

For starters, the standard 7-inch Squishmallows, which are the most common, typically cost between $5 and $10. This makes them an affordable collectible, perfect for those on a budget or for gifting. These are usually found in retail stores or online marketplaces.

Size Matters

As with many products, size does affect the price of Squishmallows. Larger Squishmallows, usually ranging from 12 to 24 inches, command a higher price. These can cost between $20 to $50, depending on the retailer and any additional features like glitter or Characterization.

For example, a 24-inch Claire the Cloud Squishmallow from the mainline collection might retail for around $50, while a 12-inch Bootleg Sloth Squishmallow could be priced at approximately $25.

Scarcity and Exclusivity

Certain Squishmallows are coveted due to their scarcity or exclusivity, which can significantly increase their price. For instance, convention exclusives, store-specific Squishmallows, or those that have retired from production can command prices well over $100 in the secondary market.

A case in point is the Reddit convention exclusive "RedditRatio Squishmallow." Initially priced at around $25, this Squishmallow now fetches over $100 on online marketplaces due to its scarcity and the community's desire for it.

Where to Buy Squishmallows

Knowing the retailer can also influence the price you'll pay. Prices can vary from store to store, both online and off. Here's a look at where you can buy Squishmallows and what to expect in terms of price:

**In-Store Retailers:** Stores like Target, Walmart, and Ross typically offer Squishmallows at their suggested retail prices. However, sales and clearance events can snag you a Squishmallow for a steal.

Online Retailers

When shopping online, giants like Amazon and eBay sell Squishmallows. Be sure to check seller ratings and product conditions, as prices can vary widely based on factors like newness, condition, and whether the item is wording, retailed, or factory sealed.

Secondary Marketplaces

Then there are secondary marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, and eBay, where you can find retired or exclusive Squishmallows. However, prices here can be significantly higher due to demand and scarcity.

While some might consider the initial price of a Squishmallow a bit steep, especially for larger sizes, collectors and enthusiasts often find the joy they bring well worth the cost. That said, understanding the market and being patient can help you snag the Squishmallows you want at prices you're comfortable with. So, are Squishmallows expensive? It depends on what you're looking for and where you're willing to look. Happy Squishmallowing!
