Are There Free Audiobooks on Apple Books?

Are you an avid listener of audiobooks but find the cost of premium services a barrier? You might be surprised to learn that there are ways to enjoy high-quality audiobooks without breaking the bank. Apple Books, for instance, offers a range of free audiobooks that cater to various tastes and interests. Let's delve into the world of free audiobooks on Apple Books.

Before we dive into the specifics, it's important to note that while Apple Books doesn't offer a vast library like some dedicated audiobook sites, their free collection is still worth exploring. It includes both classics and newer titles, covering a wide array of genres. So, let's explore how to access these free audiobooks and what you can expect from Apple Books' complimentary collection.

Understanding Apple Books' Free Offers

Apple Books operates on a different model than other audiobook platforms. Instead of offering a large number of free titles, they focus on providing a selected few as part of their "Free on Apple Books" initiative. This is usually a mix of classics in the public domain and occasionally, newer bestsellers. The catch? These free offers expire after some time, often after a few weeks or months.

However, don't let the limited duration deter you. With a little patience and regular check-ins, you can collect a substantial library of free audiobooks. Plus, Apple Books has a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to keep track of these limited-time offers.

Finding Free Audiobooks on Apple Books

So, how do you access these free audiobooks? The process is simple. Open the Apple Books app on your iOS device, or on your Mac via the Books app. On the main screen, you'll find a dedicated section titled "Free on Apple Books." Click on this, and you'll be taken to a collection of currently free audiobooks.

To ensure you don't miss out on new free offers, enable notifications in your app settings. This way, you'll receive alerts whenever a new title becomes available. Also, keep an eye on the Apple Books website or follow the official Apple Books account on social media platforms for updates on current and upcoming offers.

What to Expect from Apple Books' Free Collection

As mentioned earlier, Apple Books' free collection includes both classics and contemporary titles. You might find celebrated works like "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen or " Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley sitting alongside newer bestsellers. The genre range is also commendable, spanning fiction, non-fiction, young adult, and children's books.

While the selection changes frequently, you can expect high-quality performances from prominent narrators. Many of these audiobooks are professionally produced, providing an excellent listening experience. Moreover, since these are free, you're at liberty to explore different genres and authors without any financial commitment.

The Fine Print: Redemptions and Expirations

While Apple Books' free offers are generous, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, each free offer is typically limited to one redemption per user. This means you can't load your library with multiple copies of the same title, even if it goes free again in the future.

Secondly, these free offers expire. After the given period, the title goes back to its original paid price. Once an offer expires, you won't be able to download it, even if you've already redeemed it. So, it's best to download and start listening to your free audiobooks as soon as possible.

Managing Your Library: Downloads and Deletions

After redeeming a free audiobook, it's added to your library. However, it's important to note that these files aren't stored in the cloud. To listen offline, you'll need to download the audiobook to your device. You can do this directly from the Apple Books app or iTunes Store.

If you're running low on storage space, you can delete an audiobook from your device without affecting your library. To do this, simply swipe left on the title in your library and tap 'Remove Download.' The book will be removed from your device but will remain in your library. You can re-download it later at no extra cost.

The Future of Free Audiobooks on Apple Books

Apple Books continues to add new titles to its free collection, both classics and newer releases. They also occasionally offer free audiobooks as part of promotional events or in collaboration with authors and publishers. Thus, the future of free audiobooks on Apple Books looks promising.

By keeping an eye on the "Free on Apple Books" section and enabling notifications, you can build a robust collection of free audiobooks. Besides, exploring these titles encourages you to try new genres and authors, thereby enriching your literary journey.

So, the next time you're looking for a new audiobook to listen to, don't forget to check out the free offers on Apple Books. Who knows, you might just discover your next favorite book, absolutely free!
