Easter Egg Basket Colouring Page

The tradition of giving eggs at Easter is believed to have originated in the early Christian Church. Eggs were a forbidden food during Lent, and therefore, giving an egg as a present during Easter was a symbol of joy and relief. However, it's the decorative aspect that we're interested in. Decorated eggs have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs and even in the royal palaces of the Chinese during the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century.

The concept of Easter egg baskets, as we know them today, is believed to have come from Germany. The tradition was to use baskets to symbolize the " woven nest" of intoxicated birds that Jesus resurrected after his crucifixion.
