First, have the child draw a tree trunk and branches on the paper. Next, they can draw or write down something they need to forgive (a hurtful action or words) on a leaf. They then attach this leaf to the tree. Once they're ready to forgive and let go, they can rip the leaf off the tree and discard it. This tangible action helps children understand the power of forgiveness.

Healing Hand Painting

This craft involves painting a hand print and decorating it with words of forgiveness. You'll need a large piece of paper, non-toxic paint, and markers or permanent pens.

Have the child paint one of their hands on the paper. Once the paint is dry, have them write positive words or phrases around the handprint, such as "I forgive," "Let it go," "Peace," or "New start." This craft serves as a reminder that forgiveness can bring peace and a fresh start.

You'll need construction paper or cardstock, scissors, and a hole puncher. Have the child make a list of people they've hurt or feel have hurt them. They then write each person's name on a strip of paper, punched a hole at the top, and linked them together to form a chain. After discussing why they're making the chain and how they can make amends, they can cut the chain apart, symbolizing their commitment to forgiveness and moving forward.

Letting Go Origami Θ Shape

With origami, children can physically let go of grudges as they fold and unfold the paper.

To make the origami Θ shape, start with a square piece of paper. Fold it in half diagonally, then unfold it. Fold it in half on the other diagonal, then unfold it. You should now have an 'X' crease on your paper. Fold the paper in fourths by bringing each corner to the center, then unfold. Next, bring three of the corners to the center to form a Zweig, then unfold. Finally, turn the paper over and repeat the last two steps. This forms a beautiful origami Θ shape that kids can hold and let go of, symbolizing their release of grudges and commitment to forgiveness.

Forgiveness crafts offer a unique way for children to explore complex emotions and develop essential life skills. By incorporating these creative activities into their lives, we can help our children become more resilient, empathetic, and forgiving individuals.
