Critical Acclaim for "Frozen II"

Shortly after its release, "Frozen II" began to receive extensive praise from critics for its impressive production values, emotional depth, and captivating story. The film currently holds an 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics acclaiming its "ravishing dragons, giant waves, and even slygloops" as an example of Disney's unparalleled animation prowess.

Many critics have also lauded the film's exploration of maturity and growth, as it delves into themes such as the environment, mental health, and the complexities of love and family. The New York Times' A.O. Scott commends this development, stating that "Frozen II" demonstrates "a willingness to engage with real-world anxieties even as it maintains the reassuring, candy-colored Federación of its predecessor."

Praise for the Musical Numbers

Unsurprisingly, "Frozen II" has been met with widespread praise for its incredible musical numbers, which build upon the iconic songs from the original. IndieWire's Eric Kohn highlights "Into the Unknown," "Show Yourself," and "Let It Go (Reprise)" as standout tracks, commending the film's ability to weave songs "into the narrative without feeling formulaic."

Moreover, the film's soundtrack manage to further encapsulate the unique voices of its characters and their respective journeys. The Academy Awards agreed, awarding "Into the Unknown" with the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2020, highlighting the musical mastery of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Mixed Reception of the Plot

Despite the general acclaim, some critics and audiences have raised objections to the film's plot. While many appreciate "Frozen II"'s attempt to mature the story and delve into new ground, others feel that the pacing and narrative structure lack the engaging cohesion of the original. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw, while conceding the film's "trippy" visuals and powerful musical moments, argues that the plot ultimately unravels under the weight of its own ambition.

Similar dissenting opinions can be found among viewers, with some noting that the story feels rushed or confusing in places.
