About Green M&M's

Green M&M's are popular around the world, known for their emerald hue and smooth, milk chocolate center. Introduced in 1941, they're one of the original M&M's colors, along with brown and yellow.

In 1995, the candy's maker, Mars, Inc., changed the color formula to a more vibrant green, representing tranquility and nature. Today, green M&M's are a beloved treat worldwide.

Why Green M&M's?

Green M&M's are loved for their balance of sweet and tangy flavors. The green candies feature a crisp, colorful shell that shields the milk chocolate inside, preventing it from melting. Their unique taste and appearance make them a popular choice among fans.

For those who appreciate the environment, green M&M's also serve as a playful nod to sustainability and eco-friendliness. As our coloring page suggests, green can symbolize harmony and growth.

The History of M&M's

M&M's celebrate their 80th anniversary in 2021. Forrest Mars Sr. co-created the candy with Bruce Murrie, son of Hershey's president William F.R. Murrie. The company name, Mars, Inc., reflects Forrest's family name, while the 'M' from Murrie was adopted to create a friendly, alliterative name.

Mars and Murrie developed the idea for M&M's while watching Soldiers eat small beads of chocolate during the Spanish Civil War. They realized that by adding a protective, colorful shell, they could create a chocolate treat that wouldn't melt in warm temperatures.
