Mastering Paper: Craft Your Own Jet Plane
Ever dreamed of soaring through the skies in a craft of your own making? While you might not become the next Wright brother, crafting a paper jet plane can be a fun and educational exercise. Here's how to make a simple, yet impressive paper jet plane that you can fly. Let's dive right in!
Paper jets might seem like a childhood pastime, but they're a fantastic way to learn about aerodynamics and physics. Plus, they're incredibly easy and enjoyable to make. So, gather your materials, and let's create something that can truly take flight!
The Classic Paper Jet
The classic paper jet, also known as the "darts," is an excellent starting point. It's simple, fun, and flies surprisingly well.
To make one, you'll need a single piece of A4 or letter-sized paper. The key is to fold it along just the right spots. Let's detail the steps:
Preparation
Start with your paper laid out in landscape orientation. This will become your jet's body.
Fold the paper in half lengthwise, crease well, then unfold it. Now, your paper should have a crease down the middle.
Folding the Body
Fold the top two corners in to meet the center crease. Your new points should be the top corners of a equilateral triangle.
Next, fold the top tip of your triangle down to meet the bottom edge of your paper. You should now have a thin, long rectangle. This is your jet's body!
The Stunting Jet
Once you've mastered the classic jet, you might want to try something a bit more daring. The stunting jet can perform impressive barrel rolls and spins.
This model requires a bit more precision, but it's still easy to make. Here's how:
Creating the Wings
Begin by placing your paper in portrait orientation. Fold it in half lengthwise, as with the classic jet.
Unfold it, then refold it in half width-wise. This time, don't crease all the way; stop about an inch from the other side.
Shaping the Body
Fold the top two corners in to the center line, then unfold. Now, fold the new top corners to meet the edges you just created.
Fold the top tip down to meet the bottom edge, just like with the classic jet. You've now created your stunting jet's unique wing design!
Experimentation is key with paper jets. Don't be afraid to try your own designs and see what flies (or doesn't)! Happy crafting, and may your jets soar to new heights!
