The Story of Jesus Healing the Ten Lepers

As Jesus traveled through Samaria and Galilee, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance and called out to him (Luke 17:12-19). Leprosy, in this context, refers to Hansen's disease, a bacterial infection that affects the skin, nerves, and respiratory system. Due to the contagious nature of the disease, these men were considered "unclean" and outcast from society. Their plea for help reveals their deep desperation and faith in Jesus' ability to heal them.

Upon Jesus' command, these ten men set out on their way, and as they went, they were healed (Luke 17:14). This miracle demonstrates Jesus' authority over illness and his desire to bring wholeness and restoration to those who believe in him. In the following sections, let's explore the significance of this story and how Jesus heals the ten lepers coloring pages can help children engage with it.

The Significance of the Story

Jesus' healing of the ten lepers is a powerful demonstration of his divine authority and boundless compassion. This miracle shows that Jesus cares for all people, regardless of their social status or physical condition. As children color the scenes of Jesus interacting with the lepers, they can be reminded of Jesus' love for them and his willingness to heal and transform lives.

The story also highlights the importance of gratitude and obedience. While nine of the healed lepers failed to return and thank Jesus for his healing, one did. This Samaritan man fell at Jesus' feet and thanked him (Luke 17:15-16). In doing so, he demonstrated his gratitude and obedience to Jesus' command to show themselves to the priests (as required in the Jewish law to confirm their cleansing). By reflecting on this story through coloring pages, children can learn the significance of expressing gratitude and following instructions.
