Lego Captain America Shield Review

Avengers, assemble! When it comes to collecting iconic Super Heroes, Lego sets are a must. One standout piece that deserves special attention is the Lego Marvel Super Heroes Captain America Throwdown set (76131). Let's dive into a detailed review of this Cap-worthy Lego shield extravaganza, perfect for both kids and adult fans.

Before we delve into the nitty-gritty, let's address the elephant in the room – or should we say, the shield in the set? This 528-piece set features none other than Captain America's star-spangled shield, rendering it in robust, iconic Lego style. But is the Captain America shield worth your time and money? Let's find out.

Building the Captain America Shield

At the heart of this set lies the main attraction – the mighty shield of Captain America. Measuring over 12” (31cm) in diameter, this Lego version stays true to its comic-inspired roots. The attention to detail is impressive, from the subtle layering of red, white, and blue to the monotonous, technically advanced Lego Typeface (LTC) used on the shield's iconic circle.

But this shield isn't just for show. It's functional too. The shield detaches from its display stand and can be gripped by Captain America's included minifigure. Moreover, it reveals a hidden, buildable disc shooter – a fun, action-packed feature that kids will love.

Captain America Minifigure

Speaking of Cap, the included minifigure is fantastic. Wearing his iconic red, white, and blue suit, the Captain America figure sports aimilitude '47' on his chest, symbolizing the year he was created. His helmet can be removed to reveal his signature facial expressions, and he comes equipped with a detachable shield – perfect for recreating epic battles.

But wait, there's more! This minifigure isn't just about aesthetics. It sports a hidden, ediclip feature – pull out the stud shooter from the back of the figure's satchel to change Cap's look from stealthy to combat-ready.

The WHIH News Van

The set also includes a buildable WHIH News Van, a subtle nod to the larger Marvel Universe. This small-scale vehicle can accommodate minifigures and boasts a cool, dynamic design. It's a fun addition that offers a bit of variety to the build, but let's face it – the hammer of this set is undoubtedly the Captain America shield.

Despite its simplicity, the news van also comes with a hidden feature. The van's side panels can fold open to reveal a secret barrier, providing an extra challenge for Cap and his adversaries.

Additional Features and Build Experience

One of the standout features of this set is its versatility. With the included Power Burst elements, you can create your own action-packed displays, mimicking the dynamic poses from the comics and movies. Moreover, the set includes an iconic Spider-Man web power element, offering an opportunity for boundary-breaking team-ups or friendly competitions between Avengers.

The build experience itself is engaging and enjoyable. With a relatively low piece count, it's an ideal set for both kids and adults, offering a satisfying challenge without being overly complicated. The build process is smooth, with a logical flow that reveals new elements and surprises at every step.

Value for Money

Retailing at around $59.99, the Captain America Throwdown set offers excellent value for money. At just over $0.11 per piece, it's competitively priced within the Lego Marvel Super Heroes range. Plus, consider the included minifigure and the plethora of play features – it's not just a shield, it's an action-packed experience.

But value isn't just about price. It's about memories and experiences. This set provides fun, engaging play and encourages imaginative storytelling, making it an excellent investment for any Lego or Marvel fan.

So, should you add the Lego Captain America shield set to your collection? Absolutely. It's more than just a shield – it's a versatile, engaging playset that captures the spirit of Captain America and offers a satisfying build experience. Whether you're a kid or an adult fan, this set is a solid addition to your Lego Marvel collection. Now go forth, true believer – and always remember, "I can do this all day!"
