The Story of Revelation 12: A Guide for Colorists

To fully appreciate the Revelation 12 coloring page, it's essential to understand the story it illustrates. This chapter vividly describes a woman (interpreted as the Virgin Mary by many) in labor, giving birth to a son who isprotected by God and instantly caught up to God's throne. The dragon, identified as the devil or Satan, tries to devour the child but fails.

The woman, having given birth, flees into the wilderness where God provides for her. Here, the dragon pursues her again but is cast down from heaven. The chapter concludes with a statement that the dragon (devil) will continue to persecute the woman (the Church) on earth.

Interpreting the Woman: Mary or the Church?

The fact that she is dressed in the sun, moon, and stars points to a high-ranking, celestial figure. For those who believe in Mary's role as Co-Redemptrix, this interpretation resonates deeply.

Others interpret the woman as a symbol of the Church. This perspective underscores the Church's struggle and triumph over evil. This interpretation inspires coloring page artists to depict the woman (or the Church) in a way that reflects this strength, beauty, and eventual triumph over adversity.

The Dragon and the Conflict

Yet, Revelation 12 underscores the dragon's ultimate defeat and limitations. Despite his attempted devouring of the child, he fails, and then, later, is cast down from heaven. This trajectory, from power to defeat, offers a compelling message of hope and reminder of Jesus's ultimate victory over Satan.
