Encounter with the Virgin Mary

Juan Diego's most prominent miracle occurred when he brought roses to prove his encounter with Mary. Despite it being winter, the roses' petals fell, revealing an image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on his tilma, a rough fabric cloak. This miraculous occurrence led to the construction of the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, the most visited Catholic shrine.

The story of Juan Diego's miraculous tilma is a powerful testament to faith and the extraordinary workings of divine intervention. It's a compelling tale to share with children, sparking discussions about belief, courage, and hope.

The Tilma and the Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The tilma, aalso known as an ayate, is a humble piece of fabric that became a symbol of faith and a source of inspiration for millions of Catholics worldwide. Its preservation, despite the passage of nearly five centuries, is a testament to its divine origin.

The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, apprenticed on Juan Diego's tilma, is exceptionally beautiful and intricate. Even today, scientific research continues to uncover its secrets, such as the lack of brush or paint strokes and the perfect integration of the colors. This makes it an exciting topic for children to explore and investigate.
