Shih Tzu Colours in the UK

Nestled in the heart of the UK, the vibrant world of Shih Tzus unfolds with a spectrum of delightful colours. These charming, small breed dogs have captured hearts for centuries, and their colour varieties continue to enchant dog lovers worldwide.

Exploring the captivating universe of Shih Tzu colours UK, one finds a fascinating blend of traditional and unique hues. From the classic white and gold, to the exquisitely rare black, the array of colours showcases the breed's rich history and diversity.

The Palette of Traditional Shih Tzu colours

The traditional Shih Tzu colour palette is a delightful blend of classic hues that have long defined the breed. Each colour variant adds to the Shih Tzu's allure, making them stand out in UK dog shows.

These traditional colours include the elegant white, the regal black, and the golden hues that range from rich, deep gold to light, honey-coloured fawn. The vibrant reds and brindles also fall under this category, adding a fiery spark to the mix.

White Classics: The Pure and the Parti

The white Shih Tzu is a classic marvel, its pristine coat shimmering under the UK sunlight. There's a pure white variant and the Parti, where white dominates but is speckled with other colours like gold, black, or liver.

Both types are striking, with their whites ranging from pearly to snow-like. Parti Shih Tzus often exhibit charming colour patterns, with puppy-like masks of colour around their eyes, ears, and muzzles.

Black Pearls: Bold and Distinctive

The black Shih Tzu is a bold and distinctive staple in UK show rings. Their coats are, of course, jet black, not a hint of gold or silver to be found. This deep, rich colour gives these dogs an air of elegance and sophistication.

They can appear in two coat types - black and white, or predominantly black with white markings. Either way, they command attention due to their striking colour contrast.

Unique Shih Tzu colours UK breeders are harnessing

UK breeders continue to push boundaries, experimenting with unique colours to create truly one-of-a-kind Shih Tzus. These colours often emerge from crossbreeding or genetic mutations, adding vibrancy to the breed's colour spectrum.

Some of these unique shades include the exquisite blue, chocolate, lilac, and the rarely seen Isabella. There are also bi-colour and tri-colour variations, where two or three colours combine to create a spectacular palette.

The Enchanting Blues

Blue Shih Tzus are a breathtaking sight, their coats ranging from a light, powdery blue to a deep, rich indigo. This colour results from a dilution gene that modifies the black colour to create these ethereal hues.

Many also exhibit a silvery or whitish cast to their coats, creating a mesmerising, shimmering effect. Despite their striking appearance, blue Shih Tzus are still relatively rare in the UK.

Chocolate and Lilac Delights

Chocolate and lilac Shih Tzus are true sweet treats in the world of unique colours. Chocolate Shih Tzus boast rich, warm brown coats that can range from light milk chocolate to dark, almost black chocolate.

Lilac Shih Tzus, meanwhile, are a delicate, pastel-pinkish shade that results from a combination of the dilution gene and a chocolate coat. They possess an almost ethereal beauty, especially in the UK's softer sunlight.

Each Shih Tzu colour adds to the breed's allure, making them a beloved sight in UK homes and shows. As UK breeders continue to experiment and refine these colours, we can look forward to even more captivating shades gracing our shores. So, if you're contemplating bringing a Shih Tzu into your life, exploring their stunning colours could just be the start of a wonderful journey.
