Simeon and Anna, two devout individuals, were eagerly waiting for the promised Messiah. Simeon was a righteous man who was told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Lord's Messiah. Anna, a prophetess, had been a widow for many years, spending her days in the temple, fasting and praying. Let's explore their remarkable encounter with baby Jesus in more detail.

The Promised Messiah Arrives

According to the custom of the law, Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to dedicate Him to God. This is where Simeon and Anna's story intersects with that of the holy family.

The Holy Spirit revealed to Simeon that the baby Jesus was the Messiah they had been waiting for. Simeon approached Mary, took the baby Jesus in his arms, and praised God, saying, "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." - Luke 2:29-32

Simeon's Blessing

Simeon's words, known as the Nunc Dimittis, are a powerful acknowledgment of the promised savior. He blessed the baby Jesus and prophesied that He would cause the falling and rising of many in Israel and be a sign that would be spoken against.

Simeom's blessing is an essential part of the Christmas story, often overlooked. It serves as a reminder that Jesus was not just a baby in the manger but the long-awaited Messiah, God's gift to the world. Children can reflect on this powerful moment while coloring Simeon's blessing scene.

Anna's Recognition

Anna, who was there among the elders at the temple that day, overheard Simeon's prophecy and began to praise God. She spoke about the infant Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. Her recognition of Jesus as the Messiah is another significant moment in the story.

Anna's story is an inspiration to children, teaching them about faithfulness and perseverance. Despite her advanced age, she continued to worship God in the temple, and her diligence led to her encounter with Jesus. By coloring Anna's scene, children can connect with her story and learn its valuable lessons.
