One fun and creative way to do this is through Thanksgiving color pages for kids.

Printable Thanksgiving coloring sheets are an engaging way to keep children involved and excited about Thanksgiving. Plus, they make wonderful decorations for Thanksgiving dinner tables or classroom bulletin boards.

Themes and Symbols to Explore

Thanksgiving is rich in symbols that tell a story. These include the maize (corn), pumpkins, turkeys, and pilgrim hats. Exploring these themes through coloring pages can help kids understand the history behind the holiday.

Perhaps you can find a printable of the first Thanksgiving feast. Kids can color in the plates of food - remember, it wasn't just turkey, but also venison, fish, fruits, and vegetables. They can color in the pilgrims and Native Americans, learning about the spirit of cooperation and gratitude that the first Thanksgiving represented.

Maize and Harvest

Maize, or corn, plays a significant role in Thanksgiving. It's one of the foods that the Native Americans taught the pilgrims to cultivate. You can find many printables featuring corn on the cob, or even a maze made of maize stalks for an added challenge.

Pumpkins and fall leaves also make for great Thanksgiving coloring pages. Kids can practice their colors while learning about the harvest season. You can even print out a simple recipe for a no-bake pumpkin pie using pureed pumpkin, so they learn about cooking and nutrition too.

Turkeys and Wildlife

No Thanksgiving is complete without the turkey. Printable turkey coloring pages can help kids learn about this bird's lifespan, habits, and why we associate it with the holiday. They can also learn about other wildlife that was hunted for the first Thanksgiving feast.

You can also print out pages depicting fall wildlife scenes. Kids can color in squirrels gathering nuts, or bears getting ready for hibernation, learning about the circle of life and how different animals prepare for winter.

Thanksgiving Traditions and Activities

Thanksgiving is also about spending time with loved ones and giving thanks. Printables that illustrate these aspects can help kids understand the meaning of the holiday.

My Thankful Heart

One popular Thanksgiving activity is the "I Am Thankful For..." poster. Kids write or draw what they are thankful for, either on a printable poster or on a piece of paper. This activity not only promotes creativity and self-expression, but it also encourages kids to think about the people and things that matter most to them.

You can also find printables that have an "I Am Thankful For..." template, with different shapes like turkeys, pumpkins, or leaves. Kids can color in the shape and write or draw what they are thankful for inside it.

The Mayflower and Pilgrims

Thanksgiving is a national holiday that commemorates the arrival of the first English settlers in America. Printables depicting the Mayflower and the first pilgrims can help kids understand the history behind the holiday.

You can print out a coloring page of the Mayflower and use it as a starting point to talk about the journey from England, as well as the hardships and triumphs of the early settlers.
