Deadpool's Gun: What Color Is It?
Ever since his first appearance in "Deadpool" #1 in 1997, the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, has captivated audiences with his unique humor and extraordinary combat skills. Alongside his katana and katanas, one of the most iconic aspects of Deadpool's arsenal is his trusty sidearm. But what color is Deadpool's gun?
In the comic books and various media adaptations, Deadpool's gun is portrayed in different shades, with two predominant colors: black and gray. So, let's dive into the details, starting with the black variant.
Deadpool's Black Gun
The black gun is the most commonly depicted in the comics, contributing significantly to the character's overall black and red aesthetic. This color choice is not arbitrary; it symbolizes Deadpool's dark past and serious side beneath his sarcastic humor.
Deadpool's black gun has become a staple, often seen in artwork, comic panels, and even merchandise, giving fans a clear visual cue to identify the character. However, the exact type of black gun has varied throughout the series.
Beretta 92FS
Initially, Deadpool wielded a Beretta 92FS, a realistic semiautomatic pistol popular among law enforcement and military forces worldwide. This Italian-made gun is chambered in 9mm and has a 15+1 cartridge capacity, making it a practical choice for combat scenarios that Deadpool typically finds himself in.
In some depictions, such as the "Deadpool" movie series, the Beretta 92FS is shown with a custom red finish on parts like the slide and barrel, maintaining consistency with Deadpool's signature colors while keeping the base color black.
M1911 Pistol
In other cases, Deadpool has been shown using a customized M1911 pistol, another well-known sidearm with a rich history. This full-sized, single-action semi-automatic pistol has been used by numerous military forces around the world and is favored by many for its stopping power and reliability.
The M1911 in Deadpool's hands is typically depicted with a flat dark earth (FDE) or black finish, fitting the bill for the iconic black gun. This variant also appears in various video games, such as "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order" and "Deadpool" for Xbox One and PS4.
Deadpool's Gray Gun
While the black gun is the most prominent version, Deadpool's sidearm has also been depicted in gray. This shade is not as common, but it's still a notable part of the character's visual history, particularly in specific storylines and alternate realities.
The gray gun often appears as a subtle variation of the black gun, likely due to an artistic choice or different interpretations of the character's design. However, it can also symbolize different aspects of Deadpool's personality or the story being told.
Grayson Version
In the alternate reality series "Deadpool Volume 5," Deadpool is transported to a world where he was raised by his father, Garrison Kane, a secret agent from the covert ops team known as "The Graysons." In this continuity, Deadpool wields a gray gun, inspired by his father'sGraystone firearms. This gun serves as a reminder of Deadpool's connection to his family history and the alternate path his life could have taken.
The Graysons' gray guns are often depicted as custom-made, stealthy Pistols with advanced features, reflecting the family's reputation as skilled operatives and their focus on cutting-edge technology.
Recently in Comics
In more recent comic book releases, such as "Deadpool by Kelly Thompson" (2020), Deadpool's gun has been depicted with a grayish tint, even when paired with his usual red and black attire. This artistic choice could serve various purposes, such as distinguishing this specific continuity from previous ones, emphasizing the character's evolving identity, or simply as a creative decision by the artist.
In this particular series, the gray gun is just one aspect of a new direction for Deadpool's character, which may explain the departure from the traditional black finish.
In conclusion, despite the color variation, Deadpool's gun remains an iconic symbol of the character, versatile enough to represent different aspects of his personality and storylines. Whether black or gray, it's an unmistakable part of Deadpool's signature appearance and contributes to the unique charm that has made him a fan-favorite among Marvel readers. Keep an eye out for the many iterations of Deadpool's sidearm across various media, and stay tuned for more developments in the vast, ever-changing multiverse of Marvel comics.
